Note:
The Unipi Gate devices feature a freely programmable LED (marked as ACT) that can be controlled using standard Linux methods. In the OS the LED is available at /sys/class/leds/unipi-sysled-xh and is set to “timer” mode by default.

This chapter contains a description of all LED states for Unipi Gate, including the normal state or a troubleshooting guide if the device is in a mode for too long. Next to the state description is a picture showing the status of LED indicators.

All LEDs are off

Power supply is unplugged or the device was shut down via SW (eg. using SSH). If the device doesn't change its state after unplugging the power supply and plugging it back, it is likely damaged. Please contact the technical support.

PWR is on

The device is powered. If the device remains in this state longer than a minute, it is likely the bootloader (uboot) is missing. Please contact the technical support.

PWR + ACT are on

If the device remains in this state for longer than a minute, a bootloader error has occurred. Try to reflash the system using USB. If this method fails, contact the technical support.

A default state for booting the OS. If the device remains in this state for longer than a minute, a system boot error has occurred. Try to reflash the system using USB or the service interface. If this method fails, contact the technical support.

The device's OS is running. The device works correctly.

The device's OS is running, the control program communicates via RS485. The device works correctly.

PWR is on, the rest is blinking (600 ms)

The device runs in the service mode.

Indication of flashing the OS or creating its backup.

By default, the Unipi Gate can be started in two modes - the regular mode and the service mode. Each mode has its own LED indication. A device startup simulator is available below including a LED frequency table for both modes. The simulator demonstrates the startup process all the way from plugging in the power supply to the device's start. The simulation also includes the SERVICE button state for any non-default mode. The simulation can be started by the Plug in power button under the device's picture.

Regular mode

Watch the ACT diode during a regular startup. The “ubootOS bootloader will start first, indicated by the diode turning on. The finish of the bootloader start is indicated by the diode turning off with a short blink. After few moments the OS boot will start, indicated by two short blinks of the diode.

The device is ready when the ACT diode is continuously ON and repeatedly turns off for a short time.

Behaviour description Meaning Off On Off
ACT is on Bootloader start (uboot) 3000ms 1750ms
ACT blinks once The bootloader is running 250ms 75ms 1000ms
ACT blinks twice The controller's OS is booting 250ms 75ms
ACT is continuously on and repeatedly turns off for a short time The OS is running, the device is ready for use 50ms 2000ms

Service mode

If you are looking up for a guide on how to enter and use the service mode, please visit the this article.

The SERVICE button is pressed and held before plugging in the power supply. Then watch the ACT diode. After plugging the power supply in, the “uboot” bootloader will start first, indicated by the diode switching on. Roughly 4 seconds later, you can release the button - the diode will stay on. The finish of the bootloader start is indicated by the ACT diode turning off with a very short blink. After few moments the OS boot will start, indicated by two short blinks of the diode.

Behaviour description Meaning Off On Off
ACT is on Bootloader start (uboot) 3000ms >5000ms
ACT blinks once The bootloader is running 250ms 75ms 1000ms
ACT blinks twice The controller's OS is booting 250ms 75ms
ACT and all TX and RX diodes blink slowly The device is in service mode 600ms 600ms

Plug in power

Special functions of the service mode - flashing the OS from a USB drive

If you are looking for a guide how to flash the OS, please visit this article.

The USB drive is inserted into the device and the SERVICE button is pressed and held before plugging in the power supply. Next states of LEDs and the button are identical to the service mode until the OS is started.

After a while the OS boot will start, indicated by very short blinks of the ACT diode and all TX, RX diodes. The controller will reboot after finishing the process.

Behaviour description Meaning Off On
ACT and TX, RX diodes blink quickly Flashing the OS 80ms 80ms
