First steps
Edge
The Unipi Edge is delivered with basic Linux Debian OS called Base OS, making the device very flexible. It can deployed with a number of software solutions or with your own implementation.
This tutorial assumes the Unipi Edge is in factory settings and covers:
- Mounting and connections
- Connecting power supply
- Accessing the device
Mounting
Unipi Edge is shipped with DIN holder. This holder has two possible variants:
- default variant (AL) - thinner (3.5 mm), aluminium, better heat dissipation to DIN rail
- alternative variant (TSH-35) - thicker (7 mm), plastic and easily mountable/demountable from DIN rail
Mounting for the default variant of the holder can be found below. Mounting for the alternative variant is described in separate article.

Connecting
Connecting peripherals, sensors, control elements and communication cables
Before connecting the power supply it is necessary to connect all other terminals and interfaces. Terminals are using push-in spring connection (included). The purpose of each terminal contact is described on the top side of the unit case.
For the time only connecting ethernet cable to eth0 or eth1 interface is needed.
Unipi Edge can be connected as follows:
Connecting the power supply
Warning:
Take extra care when plugging in, there is a risk of electric shock! Always ensure and check that the environment and device are disconnected from all voltage sources before starting work.
Attention:
Make sure to connect the power supply last. Connection and disconnection of other interfaces should be done with power supply disconnected; otherwise, the device can be damaged.
To ensure correct operation of the device, it is necessary to first connect the 24V power supply wires to the contacts as described on the device, +24V/positive contact and GND/negative contact of the detachable screw terminal block. Use the appropriate flathead screwdriver to install the power wires into the terminals. Do not exceed the maximum tightening torque specified in technical parameters. For information on recommended supply voltage tolerance and power consumption, refer to operating conditions and the product label.

Warning:
The device has appliance class III. To protect against electric shock and to comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), it is necessary to connect ground conductor to ground connector of the device marked on the case with symbol
. For ground conductor connection use ring tongue and provided M3 or M4 screw with serrated lock washer. The screw type depends on the variant of Unipi Edge. M4 screw is used only for some variants like Edge with MBus.
DIN rail on which the device is installed must be connected to the main protective earth point of the cabinet/box as well.
Accessing the device
Device address
Unipi Edge can be addressed with mDNS record. mDNS adress format is as follows:
- [model]-sn[serial number].local
Example:
e410-sn1253701234.local
Model and serial number can be found on the product label.
Note:
Alternatively the Unipi Edge can be addressed via its IP address.
The IP address can usually be found on the DHCP server or by using a network scanner (such as Advanced IP Scanner).
When the Unipi Edge is connected directly to a PC or laptop, both the computer and the Unipi Edge are assigned with a random IP address from the 169.254.XXX.XXX range.
Connecting via SSH
The unit is now read to house the implementation of any project done in Base OS. To install additional SW and to create control logic, it is necessary to connect via SSH using the address from previous step.
Username for the SSH connection is unipi. For the first login use the factory default password. For further information see Passwords.
Note:
Units in default state or with freshly installed clean OS image have user password set to factory password set in manufacturing. This password can be found on the informational label.
After logging in for the first time, you will be prompted to set custom user password.
